Priyanka Gandhi

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, sister of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, has finally stepped into politics a few months before the national elections to be held in May. She can contest the Lok Sabha election from her mother Sonia Gandhi’s constituency, Raebareli, Congress sources have said. Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (January 23) appointed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, which includes Lok Sabha seats of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Rahul Gandhi told reporters, “I have not sent Priyanka and Jyotiraditya for only two months. I sent them to pursue the ideology of Congress in Uttar Pradesh”. Rahul Gandhi later said on Twitter, “UP is central to building India full of new hope and compassion”. The new UP AICC team lead by Priyanka and Jyotiraditya will start a new kind of politics in the state. We will provide youth in UP a dynamic new platform for changing the state.

47-year-old Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who reminds her grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for both her charisma and stunning equality, is seen in a natural way in politics, but she herself is only going to the constituencies of her brother Rahul. Restricted and mother Sonia Gandhi – Amethi and Raebareli till now. In the national and state elections since 2004, Mother campaigned with full enthusiasm in the family seats, where Gandhi enjoys almost royal status.

Priyanka will be an asset for the Congress in general and Rahul in particular for four reasons

1. There is no denying Priyanka’s solid charisma. She has long galvanized Congress workers and attracts the crowd who are eager about her. Her presence should draw votes for the Congress, perhaps converting those who are not enthused by Rahul.

2. Priyanka, known as a trusted ally of Rahul and his biggest counsel, will be a good response and others cannot be bold enough.

3. Sonia is not too well and does not travel like before. Now, Rahul and Priyanka can divide campaigning responsibilities and appearances. Rahul will not have to worry about those areas, which can not be due to lack of time. Priyanka can take care of those areas and constituencies. India is still mostly rural society. Indira Gandhi was very popular among the rural people, where she is still remembered as “Indira Amma”, her special appeal was among women. There are already posters in UP and other areas depicting Priyanka as Indira.

4.  Priyanka was smartly given the charge of Eastern UP, where the upper castes played a very important role in the rise of BJP in 2014. It should not be forgotten that these sections were big supporters of the Congress before the Mandal and Ayodhya politics. This upper caste was in search of a political platform and in 2014, it found the BJP. The upper castes cannot vote for the BSP and SP alliance, but if they have any option they can go to Congress. This should be the cause of concern for the BJP – that the Congress could now take back some of the upper caste votes.
